Mobile Bay Ferry Ride the ferry to Dauphin Island to visit Fort Gaines Historic Site, the Estuarium at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, and Bellingrath Gardens and Home. |

Construction on the fort began in 1819 and was completed in 1834. The large brick fort serviced many wars, such as the Civil War, Spanish-American War and both world wars. Fort Morgan played a major role during the Battle of Mobile Bay in 1864. There is a museum that details the fort's history.
